Vig/Hold Calculator

The vig — also called juice, hold, or margin — is the sportsbook's built-in profit. On a fair coin flip, both sides would be +100. But books offer −110/−110, meaning implied probabilities total 104.76% instead of 100%. That extra 4.76% is the vig.

Hold = (1/decimalA + 1/decimalB) − 1. For −110/−110: (1/1.909 + 1/1.909) − 1 = 4.76%. Lower hold means better prices for bettors. Sharp books like Pinnacle typically have 2–3% hold; retail books can be 6–8%+.

Under 3% is excellent (Pinnacle-level). 4–5% is standard for major US sportsbooks. Over 6% means you're overpaying. Always compare across books to find the lowest hold on the market you're betting.
