Frequently Asked Questions
How are Polymarket and Kalshi prices quoted?+
Both platforms quote contracts in cents between 0 and 100. A YES contract at 65¢ pays $1 if the event happens and $0 if it doesn't — so the price directly represents the market's estimated probability (65%).
Is there vig on prediction markets?+
No. Prediction markets are peer-to-peer exchanges — YES and NO prices sum to exactly 100¢ (or very close, minus a small bid/ask spread). That means the price IS the fair probability, unlike sportsbook odds which bake in a margin.
Why convert prediction-market prices to betting odds?+
To compare prices across platforms. A 65¢ Polymarket YES is equivalent to −186 American / 1.54 decimal. If a sportsbook offers the same outcome at +100 (2.00 decimal / 50% implied), the prediction market is telling you the sportsbook is offering +EV.
How do I calculate implied odds from a cent price?+
Decimal = 100 / price_in_cents. American = -price / (100 - price) × 100 if price > 50, else (100 - price) / price × 100. Example: 65¢ → decimal 1.538, American −186.
